So many great songs this year...
Good Pain is pure pop gold! Fave song of 2017
The catchiest chorus of the year!
I wish the Rostam album was as good as this remix
Aussies who sound like BSS at their poppiest.
Miny Parsons is the best rock voice of the year!
Ben Gibbard from DCFC & The Postal Service covers Teenage Fanclub? Sold!
Lyrics in this folky-pop gem are so fun.
The song of the summer. I feel the sun just listening.
If I ever smoke dope again, this will be the first song I play.
One of Canada's best drummers, kicks out the summer vibes.
Franz Ferdinand + Midlake + Band of Horses
This songs makes me feel Good as Hell!
Guilty pleasure, or do I just like The Runaways!

Albums
I have decided that as I get older my favourite album depends on the mood I am in. So, here are 10 albums I couldn't get enough of in 2017.
Twin Solitude by Leif Vollebeck
His beautiful voice sounds like it's from Sweden, as opposed to Montreal via Ottawa. Stunning minimalist joy. A perfect Canadian winter record. |
A Deeper Understanding by The War on Drugs
Like Lost in a Dream only a tad more subdued. A beautifully crafted sonic landscape. The reason headphones were invented. |
Who Told You To Think??!!?! by Milo
My favourite Hip Hop record of the year. Milo is steeped in a tradition of slam poetry and toasting over jazz backbeats. Try and keep up. |
Masseduction by St. Vincent
Not sure there is a more complete artist making music today. From the album artwork, the videos, the show and the content. She thinks through every element of the album. |
New Mistakes by Terra Lightfoot
New Mistakes is a little more polished than the her incredible 2015 album, but overall the record still skates that fine point between a sad broken-hearted girl & a confident no-nonsense broad from the Hammer. |
Wide Open by Weaves
The sophomore album from Toronto's Weaves is a strange collection of jammy rock and groovy pop. Jasmyn Burke's odd vocal delivery sits perfectly in the pocket and is a fun listen from start to end! |
The Antisocialites by Alvvays
Is it 1992? Nope it's just the glorious pop of Alvvays! Everything Now by Arcade Fire
Yes, it's not their best, and yes the Columbia ad campaign was annoying. But, still pushing boundaries and solid. |
Big Fish Theory by Vince Staples
When I play it in my car I feel a little bit like Michael Bolton in Office Space. American Dream by LCD Soundsystem
It took a while to grow on me, but once it did it has been a very enjoyable record. |
One show that blew my mind
Begonia
I saw her open for Whitehorse at The Centre in the Square and I couldn't stop thinking and raving about her voice.
Think Adele. Amazing stuff.
