First they came for the Canada Post,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a postal worker. Then they came for the Air Canada, and I didn't speak out because I had tickets for Cuba. Then they came for the teachers and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a teacher (besides they get the summer off). Then they came for me, and there was no one left to speak for me. I in no way wrote this to undermine the real issues that Martin Niemöller was talking about in his poem. Nor am I connecting the Ontario Liberal Party, or the Federal Conservative Party to Hitler's Germany. But, when the Canada Post workers were ordered back to work, and then the Air Canada workers were sent back to work I couldn't help but think of the layout of this poem. Over the last few months I have heard from nurses and prison guards who have said "we're next". As I see it the Governments of North America are coming after unions, and by extension, workers. You might not be a teacher. But, "if you work in Ontario this is your fight".
